To immigrate to Slovenia, it is sufficient for one person to obtain a residence permit, and his or her close relatives can move on the conditions of family reunion — there is no need to look for other grounds. Under such a residence permit it is possible to use medical insurance, attend educational programs and courses. When employed, one needs to apply for a change of residence permit type.
Family reunion is allowed for:
- Lawful spouse.
- Minor children.
- Parents, if they need daily care.
The main requirement for obtaining a residence permit on the basis of reunion is the financial solvency of the person applying for reunion. In 2023, there must be at least € 669.83 per month for each family member. Also, from November 28, 2023, for obtaining and extending this type of residence permit it will be necessary to attach a Slovenian A1 level certificate.
But there is a nuance: it is possible to apply for a family reunion not earlier than after the applicant’s two years of residence in Slovenia. Let’s study the ways to immigrate as a family without waiting a year.
Grounds for adult residence permit
A spouse or parent can obtain a full residence permit together with you: become your business partner, open a company, enroll in an educational institution or get a job. After two years, you can change the basis for a residence permit and choose "family reunion" - this will allow your relative to stay in the country.
For children, the basis for the first residence permit can be studying at a Slovenian school, college or university, and for pre-school children we offer legal support in the processing of documents for the protection of children’s rights to live with their family.
The right to obtain a residence permit and citizenship also applies to the applicant’s relatives who are living under a reunion residence permit. The requirements for obtaining a residence permit are not so strict: when the main applicant receives a residence permit, his or her family members may submit an application after 2 years, of which it is possible to be absent from the country for a total of no more than 10 months and no more than 6 consecutive months. On other grounds, it is possible to leave Slovenia for up to 10 months within 5 years.
