A permanent residence permit gives the right to live in Slovenia as a citizen of the country. This option is suitable for those who are not ready to renounce their principal citizenship.
Nevertheless, Slovenian citizenship gives the following opportunities:
  • The right to political participation — a citizen has the right to vote, become a candidate for public office, address the government with their demands.
  • The ability to buy and sell real estate as a natural person.
  • Protection by the state — a citizen of Slovenia is protected by the law and can address the government for help and protection of his/her rights.
  • Ability to hold public office.

Conditions for citizenship:

  • Residence in Slovenia for 10 years on the basis of business immigration and employment or 7 years on the basis of university studies.
  • Timely extension of residence permit and obtaining permanent residence permit.
  • Certificate of passing the Slovenian language exam at level B1.
  • Good knowledge of the legal system and culture of the country.
  • Certificates of no criminal record.
  • Financial guarantees — monthly income must be at least 669.83 € per month.
  • Preliminary renunciation of primary citizenship.
