Slovenia is a small country, so the main public transport here is the bus. City buses run according to the timetable posted at the bus stops. The routes' numbers and directions are also indicated there. Buses run from 5:00 to 22:30, but on the main directions they run from 3:00 to 24:00. The bus fare is from € 1.3 to € 2.7 depending on the number of zones to be crossed. The ticket is valid for 90 minutes, during this time you can change to other routes. To keep the fare lower, you can buy an unlimited pass: a monthly pass for adults costs from € 37 to € 63 depending on the number of zones to be crossed, and an annual pass costs from € 365 to € 630.
Fares can only be paid with an Urbana karta card, cash is not accepted in the bus. You can buy and top up the card via the terminals at bus stops or newsstands. Urbana karta can also be used to pay for the cable car ride to Ljubljana Castle, parking, Ljubljana Library, entrance tickets to museums, sports and cultural events.
Long-distance transport
You can travel long-distance or overseas by bus or train. You can also buy season tickets and discounted tickets. And there are combined fares, for using both urban and long-distance or international transport.

Riding the bicycle
In Europe, the bicycle is a convenient, safe and environmentally friendly city transport. It also helps to solve the parking problem. There are few parking lots in the central districts, and parking fees are high.
A large number of bicycle lanes and parking lots are organized in the cities, and there are automated bicycle rental points. The first hour is free, a week’s subscription costs € 1 and a year’s subscription costs € 3. Maps of the rental stations and subscription services are available at www.bicikelj.si/.
